TimeSaver Layout
It’s a Race Against the Clock with a Timesaver Layout.
Phil Tiller of the Crescent City Model Railroad Club just finished building a Timesaver Switching Yard for the club. The purpose of the very specific layout is to race against the clock to see who can complete the switching maneuvers in the least amount of time.
According to everyone’s friend Mr. Google, “Timesaver’ refers to a very specific track plan invented as part of a switching game by John Allen. You can’t control the speed; it’s set to a fixed slow speed. You use a toggle to reverse direction.
The siding lengths are very specific to force you into making certain moves to run around cars and so forth – it’s not very realistic, but it is a fun and challenging puzzle.”
Thanks to Ken Mason for sending the photos of the finished Timesaver layout
