Horton Go229

This model is the Revell kit in 1/72 Scale. It is represented in the dual-pattern waffle/wave seen on late war Ju88’s.
Instead of trying to re-create these patterns with freehand spraying with the airbrush, I chose to use masks that were first designed on the computer and laser cut from paper cardstock.
The masks were applied over the RLM76 (mix of Tamiya acrylics) and the RLM75 was sprayed to create the small “diamonds” or “squiggles” taking into account a slight stand-off of the masks to eliminate a hard camouflage edge.
The upper and lower wing insignia were also sprayed using vinyl masks I’d cut for that purpose. An overall misting of RLM76 was applied to minimize the severe contrast between the two colors and balance the overall effect.
The model was built out of the box and competed at the 2014 IPMS-USA National Convention taking first in it’s category.
