Painting Goggles
by Chuck Theidel
Some figures such as pilots, tank crew and others wear goggles. Color selection for the lenses is easy- usually a smoky green or a smoky dark gray. The trick to painting glass is acquiring a perfect gloss.
Never use gloss paint: it is too thick, and often the color will be incorrect. Paint the lenses or glasses with several thin flat coats finishing with a clear gloss. I use Future floor wax after painting the goggles or glasses, and apply several coats, allowing each to dry.
It may take up to ten coats to get the glassy effect you want, but the final result will be well worth the time and effort.
