 by Shawn Levy

After years of neglect sitting in Audubon Park (New Orleans) followed by years of meticulous reconstruction, the Southern Pacific 745 Steam engine is back on the tracks. It made a trip around the state of Louisiana in April, 2005.

Crowds wave bye to SP 745 as it departs Schriever for it’s next stop at Morgan City, LA

Here’s a shot of SP 745 crossing the Bonnet Carrie Spillway bridge, just clearing the 10-mph limit.

(LASTA) Louisiana Steam Train Association’s restored SP 745 steamed up and ready to make a run from KCS New Orleans Yard to Reserve, LA.

The SP 745 has a distinctive “dog house” shed on top of it’s Vanderbilt tender for the head end brakeman. This class of Mikado 2-8-2 worked mainly in east Texas, where such a structure was required by law –
