Return of the Creature
By Paul Olivier
My first Creature was the Revell redo of the classic Aurora model. I did that one for nostalgia sake.
I like this pose for the Creature; it’s more dynamic than the classic Aurora pose. I sculpted a longer neck so the Creature could crane his head toward the surface. I think he has spotted Julie Adams swimming by.
This Creature is primed in black, coated in olive drab, using black and sea blue in the shadows, and yellow chromate to highlight scales. Buttercream craft paint was used for the claws, muddied up with hull red.
The base is an aquarium rock from Walmart, painted black, with olive drab “zenithal” highlights.
I deliberately did not use a gloss coat, because under water, nothing looks glossy.
If I ever do another Creature, I will do it in black and white.
