For an older kit, Monogram’s 1/48 B58 Hustler went together quite well. There was also plenty of detail on the landing gear. One of the first things I did was to sand off the raised panel lines, which took about 10 hours. Then I used a scribe to etch the panel lines back on, following the pattern left after sanding.

The plane was sprayed overall with Floquil Silver. The weapons pod and the drop fuel tank in front of the pod were sprayed with Rub & Buff Silver thinned with diosol

. I was surprised at how easy it was to use as well as the excellent finish it gave – comparable to using Alclad.

B58 HustlerBare Metal Foil was used on the engine pod as well as several different shades of Testors metalizer. An MV lens was used for the strobe and landing lights.

A modification that I made was to the pitot tubes. I cut off the locator pins and used brass wire to attach the tubes. This allows them to move instead of breaking off. Brass tubing was used to attach the engine pods because of their weight.
