“There Still Be Pirates!”
by Gil Gonsoulin
The kit used in this diorama called “There Still Be Pirates!” is Industria Mechanika’s Remora. It’s an anti-gravity sci-fi ship created from one of Ian McQue’s drawings.
The original kit was modified using the crane from Academy’s Fitter kit. The crane mount was scratch built as was the radar, flag pole and the Gatling gun mount.
The original kit has a crane on the bow, so I made the gun mount to look like the normal crane. That way the pirates can sneak up on their prey.
The rope bumpers are from Billings. Floquil, Model Master and AK paints were used to paint the Remora. AK Interactive paint was used to create the various rusted effect.
The cargo is from various sci-fi kits. Figures are from Industria Mechanika’s submariners. The two on deck were modified, one had a parrot put on his shoulder and the other figure’s head was replaced with one that has an eye patch.
Plastic fake water was placed over tin foil painted with acrylic artist paint. Ground work is foam covered with small gravel, Mig pigments and Woodland Scenics earth colors.
The animals found scattered about the deck are as follows: cat and seagull are from Industria Mechanika – – mouse is from Plus Models – – and the parrot is from Master Box.
